Most houses near Market Square went up back when Eisenhower was still in office. The typical home in this tract was built around 1957. That changes what we find when we pull back the padding. Original hardwood floors got covered with wall-to-wall carpet sometime in the 60s or 70s, and a lot of that carpet is still on the job today, just not doing it very well.
We’re out here every week on these older places. And the pattern’s always the same. Decades of foot traffic near entryways off the driveway, salt tracked in every winter, padding flattened out from years of use. The fibers hold onto grit like a sponge, even after a quick vacuum. The drive matters because of what’s waiting on the other end. A lot of the homes we service in Lake Forest were built around 1957. We plan extra time on those jobs, not because the drive is long, but because older homes need a slower hand. Fast work on a house like that can do more harm than good.

Drive down Deerpath Road toward Market Square on a Saturday morning and you’ll see what we mean. Big lawns, older brick colonials, cars in driveways that cost more than some houses. This is a neighborhood built to last. Most homes here went up around 1957, and that matters when we’re pulling out our extraction equipment.

So the person answering the door is usually the one who picked out that wool rug in the front hall. That changes how we work. Renters call us for a quick refresh before move-out. Owners near the Square want the carpet to last another decade, not just look good for the open house.

Finished basements that flood a little every spring near the lower yards. Formal dining rooms nobody eats in but still need the rug cleaned twice a year.
